Healthy Visions Has Success at SVP FastPitch

Watch Healthy Visions Winning Fast Pitch

The Social Venture Partners of Cincinnati – along with support from Flywheel, Skystone Partners, GiveUnity, and a number of other local organizations – recently hosted a Fast Pitch competition featuring twenty nonprofits in the community, and Healthy Visions was one of those organizations! Fast Pitch is a technique borrowed from the venture capital and startup community. It is a way to showcase and accelerate nonprofits making a difference in a particular city – speakers for each organization receive training in telling effective, inspiring stories and then compete by offering a 3-minute pitch to a group of judges.

Healthy Visions was selected as one of the Top 20 semifinalists in December, and made the cut into the Final 8 in January. Those organizations – which included nonprofits such as Lawn Life, Changing Gears, Faces Without Places, and a number of other worthwhile groups – competed in February at Memorial Hall downtown for a chance at $30,000 in prize money. And while each pitch was engaging and dynamic in its own way, the Healthy Visions representative (program manager Dean Kirker) was able to appeal to the judges and audience in a manner that resulted in success for Healthy Visions.

In the end, Healthy Visions received Flywheel’s $5,000 Social Enterprise award designed to launch or grow a social enterprise that makes Cincinnati a better place. Our social enterprise, the electronic version of Healthy Visions called eSafeTeen, is an online tool that teaches critical thinking skills and provides social media support to assist youth in making healthy behavioral choices. We are currently in the process of working in tandem with Flywheel to get the word out about eSafeTeen.

On top of our Flywheel Social Enterprise award, Healthy Visions also received the SVP-sponsored ‘Good Idea Made Possible’ award of $5,000, taking the official winnings to $10,000. The entire Fast Pitch event was an excellent opportunity to network with potential donors and funders, and to see several other worthwhile Cincinnati nonprofits in action. Healthy Visions is appreciative for being selected as a finalist, and looks forward to the possibility of competing again next year!
